Despite his ever busy schedule we managed to grab a few minutes with our very own Hervé Joyaux Fabre to speak to him about his new title of IWC Red Winemaker of the Year. We will be speaking to him over the forthcoming months to gain more of an insight into Hervé and his life as an award-winning winemaker.
It is almost 2 months since you were crowned International Wine Challenge Red Winemaker of the Year. Has the new sunk in yet?
I’m still remembering this amazing evening, the quantity and quality of people attending the IWC gala dinner was quite something. This is an extraordinary award and I still feel very humbled to have been chosen, I’m particularly very happy as this is the result of a great team work.
Has anything changed for you?
Not really, we are now looking to the next harvest and to ensure we make the best out of it with the same passion.
We have lost count of the number of trophies and medals you have won for your wines, are there any highlights for you?
Definitively this award as well as the constant recognition from other wine professionals such as Decanter and the IWSC.
Do you have any words of advice for someone wanting to start out on the winemaking path?
Passion, hard work, dedication and of course some talent!
What has been the greatest lesson you have learnt so far?
You can not fight against mother nature and to say thank you every day.
Aside from your winemaker of the year title, what has been your greatest achievement so far in your illustrious career?
To be able to share this passion with my wife Diane and be able to work together.
